League TablesTo check out our league position Click Here Team NewsWell done to all the Alvis boys for another great effort on Saturday. We have now secured 2nd position in the League! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Match Report - Cup Semi Final against Southam Sunday 18th April 2010. It was a glorious sunny morning in Southam as both teams took up their positions on the pitch. To the surprise of many, the game was going to be played for only 20 mins each way (apparently to allow for extra time if required!). The ref blew for kickoff, with Southam kicking into the sun! Southam put the pressure on early with Alvis being forced to defend for much of the first half. WOW - and how well did the Alvis boys do in defending that ball! Some fantastic clearances to the side lines and some tremendous saves from the goalkeeper! The Alvis had some chances in the first half, helped with some big goal kicks (and at one point with help from the overhead power lines - conveniently dropping the ball at the feet of the Alvis in the Southam half!). Neither team was able to capitalise on the opportunities. Half Time Score 0-0. The second half kicked off with Alvis now kicking up hill and into the sun! It seemed like the Alvis boys were determined that this match was not going to be a walk over and stepped up the pace putting more pressure on Southam than in the first half. Southam continued to play well with some good passing of ball, but the Alvis managed to push more of the play deep into the Southam half with some more chances on goal. Southam won themselves a number of corners, and had some great corner kicks right across the Alvis goal mouth, but with a bit of luck, some excellent defending and again some earth shattering saves, the Alvis kept that ball out of their net! Unfortunately, the Alvis were stuck with a bit of bad luck just moments from the end with a cruel deflection off a corner kick and we were 0-1 down! Anybody would have been challenged to keep that goal from going in! Full Time Score 0-1 What a truly great performance from our boys! All of the squad played a part in the game and each and every one of them should feel really proud of themselves. It is difficult to single any one player out as they each played their socks off! However a special mention must go to Alex the 'man of the match!' What a great performance prompting the referee to say that he was the best goalie that he had seen in the league! Even though we eventually lost the match the boys can hold their heads up high after such a great performance against a team that are top of the league above us!
