21/03/10 Alvis V Alveston I have got to admit I have seen this result coming, The Alvis Boys starting to forget to do what is asked of them, not keeping to there positions, playing as individuals, no passing, no closing down and weak tackling. I think the boys thought Alveston were going to roll over and let the Alvis boys win wthout a fight. Well boys, Alveston returned your we just turn up attitude by out playing you and scoring 3 good goals. Alvis 0 Alveston 3 easiest 3 points they've got this season. 14/03/10 Alvis V Stratford Town I was looking forward to this game, after a close game and defeat to Stratford away earlier in the season, I wanted to see how the 2 teams had developed and to make it more interesting Stratford had got there strongest player back. The 2 teams started with the same formation and were cancelling each other out. The first effort on goal went to Stratford with a forward ball being met by the striker who hooked the ball over our goalie only for the ball to go wide. A late tackle on an Alvis player had the ref calling over the Stratford manager to talk to and calm down his player. The resulting free kick was sent goalward but the Stratford goalie easily dealt with it. Next a weak goal kick dropped inside their own half, Adam met the ball on the volley and put it over the stranded Stratford goalie, and it dropped just under the bar and hugged the net. 1-0 Alvis. Stratford were finding it hard to string passes together as their players were being tightly marked. The second goal came from a corner and the cross was met by the Stratford goalie who could not keep hold of the balll. Adam, quickest to react stabbed the ball into the back of the net. HALF TIME 2-0 Alvis. Stratford started the second half lively with their left winger getting more involved in the game, his quick feet and twisting runs giving the Alvis right back a torrid time. Even I was getting dizzy watching this boy run. Stratford's first goal came from this player who twisted past 3 Alvis players and slipped the ball under the Alvis goalie for a well deserved goal. 2-1. Stratford were getting confident on the ball, so a change of players and formation was needed. This did the trick with the Alvis boys starting to close down quickly and moving the ball forward quickly, putting Stratford under pressure. Alvis were getting corners but the Stratford goalie saved 2 of Tommy's headers. Stratford's second goal came from a cross. It was headed back to the Alvis goal, the Alvis goalie realising the ball was going in, back peddled and pushed the ball onto the bar, the Stratford striker watched the ball drop and smashed it into the goal. 2-2. The Alvis boys now needed a goal. Jarrod picked up the ball and went on a strong forward run, using his strength to pass 2 Stratford players and pass the ball around the goalie to make it 3-2. With Alvis getting back in front they kept Stratford in their own half, with Tommy chasing every ball and closing down every player in the Stratford half. The final whistle was met with a cheer from the Alvis boys with their first win against Stratford. FINAL SCORE 3-2 to the Alvis. Overall a well contested game with 2 evenly matched teams cancelling each other out. With the change at the back putting Jack in the middle, he tidied up all the loose balls. With his holding role it left our backs able to push forward and help the Alvis attack. MoM: TOMMY who chased every ball and closed down every Stratford player in their own half. Well done TOMMY! 07/03/10 Alvis V Coventry Jaguar After only playing the Jag boys a month earlier, we knew this would be a physical game and it was for the first 10 minutes. The Alvis boys started slowly yet again, forgot about keeping their formation, had weak tackling and very little passing. However, as the boys warmed to the game, they started to take control, winning tackles, finding passes and having shots on goal. The Jag Boys were finding it hard to break down the Alvis Team and finished the half 3-0 down with not a shot on goal. The second half went much the same way as the first but this time Alvis were in control from the KO. The Jag Boys were kept out of the Alvis area and only got the 1 shot at the goal, which hit the post. The Alvis Boys scored another 3 goals finishing the game 6-0. Overall a solid performance from the boys, the only down side is the slow start again. The warm up before the game is just as important as the game, so let's turn up with our footballing heads on, do our drills and start the game with pace. MoM: Josh had his best game so far this season. But the award went to Jarrod who scored 2 good goals and showed his team mates how to battle to win the ball. Well done JARROD! (You came very close Josh. Keep up the good work). 28/02/10 Alvis V Brinklow Brinklow came to the Alvis on the back of a bad defeat, so I know they will have been trained hard and would be up for this game. The Alvis boys also had a good training session this week, so a good performance was expected. From the start you could see the Brinklow boys were up for this game, with them closing down players, good movement and crisp passing. The Alvis boys looked like they had never played before, weak tackling, poor passing and no shape. Brinklow were having the better possession and were attacking the Alvis goal with ease. The first goal was against the run of play, a corner was met by Tommy who lost his marker and headed the ball into the back of the net. 1-0 Alvis. From the kick off Brinklow walked straight through the Alvis team without being tackled and smashed the ball into the back of the net. 1-1. The Alvis boys were getting forward but all their shots were rushed and were going wide. Brinklow were more composed and were looking the more likely to score. They did just before half time, 1-2 to Brinklow. Half Time 1-2 and I was happy with this score as Brinklow could have had another 2 if not more. A quick chat with the boys and out they went for the second half. Alvis had a bit more of a spring in their step and started to close down, tackle and pass. Both teams were attacking well now, with the ball being played from box to box. A big turning point came half way through the second half. A Brinklow corner was swung inward, Kieran pushed the ball but it was heading goalward bound. A swinging Alvis boot cleared the ball, what looked like off the line. Brinklow shouted goal, the Alvis boys shouted no goal, the ref looked to his linesmen, luck was on the Alvis side, with the Brinklow linesman saying he could not be sure. Play on shouted the ref, music to my ears. 3-1 down and I believe the Alvis boys would have given up. That decision gave the Alvis boys a big boost and now they started to push forward. Five minutes left on the stop watch and the Brinklow goal was under siege. the Brinklow goalie was in fine form and every shot was being pushed onto the post or the crossbar, it was going to be something special to beat a keeper in this form. And it was, a cross was met by Tommy who's left foot met the ball on the edge of the area and he powered the ball into the bottom corner of the Brinklow goal. 2-2. Alvis were now on top for the first time in the game and sensed another goal. A corner was given from a Brinklow clearance, the cross was cleared for another corner. This time as the ball was crossed, the ref only went and blew the whistle for full time. You're too honest John, but that's what I like to see (by the way YOU'RE FIRED!) FINAL SCORE 2-2. Overall the managers, assistants, players, parents and supporters must have gone through every emotion being involved in this game, but I would say a draw was fair result after the final whistle. MOM: TOMMY, point saving left foot. Pat Corcoran (fixture secretary for the League) watched this game and commented on how the 2 teams were a good advertisement for mini football, both management teams and sets of parents/supporters were a credit to their clubs. Well done all, keep it up. 14/02/10 Alvis V Chapelfield Colts With the draw specialists coming to play the Alvis, who had only 2 losses against them, we knew that Chaps would be a hard team to break down. So an attacking formation was fielded, but Chaps hadn't come to defend. Every time they were in possession they passed well trying to move it around the Alvis players but the Alvis midfield and defence were up for it stopping most of the Chaps attacks before they got near the Alvis area. When the Alvis did have possession they moved the ball around using the wings well but the Chaps were also defending well. The Chaps were giving the Alvis lots of throwins in dangerous positions upfield around the area. The first goal came from some nice play from Jarrod moving the ball down the wing cutting inside the area and scoring with a cross goal shot into the bottom corner. 1-0 The second goal came from a corner, a floated cross from Adam was met by the Chaps goalie who pushed the ball out to the far corner of the area. Unluckily for Chaps it was met by Jarrod who volleyed the ball into the net. 2-0. Alvis were now in control and started to push foward but also started to lose a bit of shape. The Chaps striker received the ball on the half way line and started to bare down on the Alvis goal, with a 4 yard gap between himself and any Alvis player, he was looking to go 1 on 1 with the goalie. As he reached the area, he was just swinging his leg back for a shot when Alex came from no where and made a perfect slide tackle to push the ball out for a corner. Great tackle Alex! (psycho in the making). The third goal also came from a corner, with a shot from Tommy being saved and the rebound being forced goalward by George. HALF TIME 3-0. A little chat with the team reminding them about playing as a team and keeping there shape, they were sent out for the second half. With nothing to lose, Chaps started to push forward looking for a goal and were rewarded with some corners . But each cross was either met by an Alvis clearance or caught and smothered by Kieran. A quick throw from Kieran didn't reach its target and was kicked back into the Alvis area, Adam first to react miss hit the ball into the path of a Chaps player who smiled as he put the ball into the back of the net. 3-1. Master Byrne likes to score against the ALVIS. The Chaps goal seemed to shake the Alvis boys up and they were now on the look out for more goals. Tommy placing shots just wide and Jarrod hitting the post, it didn't look as if it was going to come. Chaps were now under a lot of pressure and just couldn't get the ball out of their own half. The fourth goal came from a cross from Jarrod, Tommy met it with a half volley and watched the ball leave his foot and rest in the corner of the Chaps goal . FULL TIME 4-1 Overall a solid team performance who worked hard to break down a good defensive team. We also showed that when we work as a team and get behind the ball, we also are a hard team to break down. MOM : Hard one this week as every Alvis player had done something in this game to justify the award but the MOM was given to ADAM who covered every blade of grass either breaking down attacks or starting attacks. Well done Adam. 07/02/10 Coventry Jaguar V Alvis The first half was well contested, both teams matching each other for tackles. With a soft pitch and Coventry Jaguar closing our players down quickly, we were unable to play the passing football that we have become used to. As a result, a more physical game developed and both teams were restricted to few chances in the first half. Both teams missed opportunities to go ahead. As the half progressed, Alvis were starting to take control of the game and were applying pressure, winning the physical battle. A free kick won by Josh saw Adam shoot towards goal. Thomas Rouse rose and headed just over the Jaguar bar. Eventually a goal came late on in the first half. A great through ball played by Jarrod and Tommy was away, finishing in the bottom corner. Half time 0-1 Alvis. A change of formation in the second half and the boys continued to build on the good work started in the first. Jaguar had to suffer wave after wave of Alvis' attacking football. A ball played to Tommy's left by Jack saw him take on two defenders, beat them and finish into the top corner with his left foot. 0-2 Alvis. Jarrod was a constant threat on the left and he broke free into the box only to be tripped by the last defender - Penalty! Tommy stepped up and was unlucky to hit the base of the post. The third goal was created by some powerful running and a good cross from Jarrod. Tommy was there to fire home his and Alvis' third of the game. 0-3 Alvis. Jaguar didn't give up and forged three good chances, two where the striker broke free and only had Kieran to beat. Both times Kieran closed down well and the ball ended up wide of our goal. The third, we were not so lucky. A scramble in our area and the ball was forced over the line despite the brave efforts of Thomas Keay to keep it out. 1-3 Alvis. Still, we took the game to Jaguar, with Alex winning tackle after tackle and running with the ball on the left. After some good work from George on the right, he was brought down to win a free kick. Jarrod stepped up and placed the ball into the top corner of the Jaguar goal. 1-4 Alvis. The final goal came from one of about eight corners we had in the second half. Jarrod crossed the ball and again Tommy was there to finish. 1-5 Alvis. An excellent all round team performance, winning the physical battle. MOM JACK selected by 'the parents panel' for outstanding tackling, positioning, passing and determination. Well done boys. 24/01/10 Alvis V Coventry Copsewood After a long break of nearly 6 weeks without a competitive game, both the teams went about their business on the pitch - like boxers sparring, the ball went from end to end with both teams looking for a weakness, both teams keeping each other out of the goal. Alvis had a bit more luck down the wings and Copsewood were looking to counter attack. Crosses came from Jarrod and George and 2 short range goals came for Tommy who, like any good striker, latched onto spills from the goalie. Alvis up 2-0. With Alvis pushing forward looking for goals they were forgetting to defend, which left the defence and goalie open to counter attacks. The 2 Thomas's and Kieran were able to stop most of the Copsewood attacks but sooner or later Copsewood were going to get a break. And so they did, I can't really remember the first but the equaliser was a cracker. The ball came out of the area to an oncoming player and he struck it so sweet, hard and low, back through the players into the bottom corner of the Alvis goal, unstoppable. 2-2 With both teams getting tired, sloppy tackles and shirt pulling were getting picked up by the referee. Two late tackles going against Copsewood in the later stages of the first half gave 2 free kicks to Alvis in vertually the same spot. With the first being struck well but the keeper saving it easily in the air and with the second Adam had got his range and fired it into the top corner. 3-2 HALF TIME 3-2 With fresh legs and rehydrated boys back on the pitch, the game continued being end to end with Copsewood finding it a lot harder to get through the Alvis tighter defence. Still it was too close to call at 3-2 and Alvis needed a goal for some breathing space. Jack tried a magnificent shot from the halfway line only for the ball to graze the Copsewood bar. The next goal was a long time coming with only 5 minutes left on the clock, Tommy latched onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Josh and tucked the ball into the corner of the goal. Hat-trick for Tommy, 4-2 to Alvis. FULL TIME 4-2 I would like to congratulate both sets of players who played some attractive football considering they have just had such a long break. Thankyou Hayden for doing a great job refereeing, also to Liam my trusted linesman - (did I see you run, 10K BOOKED FOR YOU MATE) MOM Hard one this week with many candidates but the award was given to THOMAS ROUSE who didn't put a foot wrong. Well done Thomas. 13/12/09 Alveston V Alvis This was to be a big game, top of the table clash with the prize being 'bragging rights' for top of the table over the Christmas break. After watching the Alveston Team on u tube I changed the team formation with attacking football in mind. From the first whistle Alveston must have wondered what was going on with attack after attack. Adam spreading the ball wide from the middle down the wings to George and Jarrod who were terrorising the Alveston defence with their speed and strength. With Tommy's movement and the balls he was recieving, a goal was sure to come. The first goal came with good passing between Adam, George and Jarrod, they moved the ball forward between them finding Tommy in the area with space to shoot 0-1. The second was all George's work, with another strong run down the right wing he fired the ball under the goalie, beating him at the near post 0-2. The third came from a free kick in our own half, Adam finding Tommy outside the area, passes to George who shoots at goal, only for the keeper to save it, the loose ball was followed up by Tommy 0-3. The fourth was all Jarrod's work, picking the ball up on the half way line, he ran straight past Alveston's midfield and defence into the area and passed the ball into the corner of the goal 0-4. It wasn't all Alvis it was just once Alveston had the ball they didn't have time to do anything with it as an Alvis player was straight on them forcing them back or wide. When they did get past the midfield the 2 Thomas's were there to clear the ball. At times the forward did get behind our defence and he had Kieran coming out either clearing the ball or making a save. Half Time 0-4. We've been in this position before and given away points so a change of formation was made with a more defensive look. Alex and Jack coming on at the back with Thomas K in the centre of defence, Adam and Jarrod in the middle with Josh in a new role up front. Even with this formation we were still attacking the Alveston goal. The Alveston boys were starting to get tired with the pace of the game, with only the one sub their legs were getting tired. Then out of the blue an Alveston clearance, the ball past our defence and trickled past the keeper only for it to hit the post. Luckily for us Kieran was quickest to react and smothered the ball before there striker got to it. It took Josh a while to get used to his new position as he kept coming back to receive the ball, a few words from the side line and he started to stay up front. Once he stayed up front he started to enjoy himself as he was receiving balls from Adam and Jarrod. After a couple of shots he started to get some confidence and run at the defenders. With some 1-2's being played between Adam, Jarrod and Josh, one of these moves found Josh on the edge of the area who fired the ball goalward only for the keeper to dive and save it with his face, great shot and great save. The keeper didn't even flinch and got on with the game. The fifth goal came just after that and it was my goal of the match. Jarrod was running down the left wing with the ball, he looked up and from one side of the box floated the ball to the other side using the ouside of his foot, Adam controlled the ball on the run, pushing it forward and firing it into the back of the net with his next stride 0-5. Time for fresh legs as the midfield had worked ther socks off. With the fresh legs of George and Tommy coming on Alveston must have been thinking the worst but no more goals were to come. Final Score 0-5 This has been a strong league so far this season with every team we have played having good players and who have all played attractive football. But with all your hard work and the effort you have put in you have matched them all. So boys thanks for all your hard work and effort, keep it up next year. MERRY CHRISTMAS BOYS! Sean & Simon. MoM: GEORGE, outstanding attacking football 29/11/2009 Alvis V Whitley With all the Alvis pitches being waterlogged, the game was to be cancelled but whilst talking to the Whitley manager he informed me his pitch was available and playable, so I gave away our home advantage in order that the game could be played. On arriving at the Whitley ground the grass was a little long and the pitch was a bit cut up but I am sure we will come across poorer pitches as the season goes on. OH! How I wish I hadn't taken the team to play this game because most of them just didn't fancy it. The boys were told no fancy footwork today as it was about passing the ball forward and running on to it. Let the ball do the work as it was going to get heavy under foot. But did they listen - NO- as they started to pass to feet with their backs to the goal, the ball just got stuck in their feet. NO MARKING, NO PRESSURIZING, NO TACKLING, WEAK CLEARANCES, WEAK PASSING: I won't carry on because I think you all get the jist. To have played so badly and yet we could have still won if we could have hit the target says it all. Lets take nothing away from the Whitley Team and their Management as they wanted it more. The Whitley boys used their own pitch to their advantage and in the second half when the Alvis boys did apply pressure the Whitley manager constantly slowed the game down with frequent substitutions. So boys if you think you can just turn up and win then think again. To get to the top of this league you have to work hard and to stay there you have to work even harder. Back to basics at training this Thursday. One very unhappy Manager/Coach and Assistant. MoM : JARROD, head and shoulders above his whole team this Sunday 22/11/2009 Brinklow V Alvis It's off, then it's on! Eventually we get the call we all wanted and the Brinklow manager does the Del Monte and says yes! A new venue is found and the game gets to be played, lots of happy boys . WELL DONE SCOTT. NOW ON TO THE GAME. Somehow the Alvis start with the wind to their backs, both teams playing good football, defending well and passing the ball around. Both teams getting shots at goal. Kieran was having another solid game between the sticks with good saves and quick distribution to the forwards. Our defence was playing well and the forwards were starting to put some nice passes together. Eventually a goal came with Josh finding Tommy who puts the ball in the back of the net 0-1. Alvis started to edge the game as they were having more posession and putting a lot of pressure on the Brinklow goal, corner after corner, surely a goal would come? Eventually it did, a floated corner from Jarrod was met by Alex who happily turned it into the net 0-2. Another good through ball from Josh, Tommy has a one on one with the Brinklow keeper who makes a fine low save. Now Alvis kept pushing forward leaving Jack and Kieran open to counter attacks. A quick break from Brinklow and 3 players against Jack was on, Kieran dealt with the low shot. WARNING to the defence as this was discussed at the last training session. A well worked throw-in sees Alex hit the ball at goal from the left only to rebound off the bar. Brinklow get another break this time it's their striker 1 on 1 with KIERAN who makes himself big and forces the striker wide. He fires the ball into the side netting. HALF TIME 0-2 Time for a change and 3 fresh pairs of legs on the pitch. First attack from the Alvis and a goal comes from a poor clearance by the Brinklow defender that deflects off Adam into the path of George who's first touch is to fire the ball into the top corner from 15 yards GREAT STRIKE 0-3 (Goal of the season contender!). But still Brinklow kept battling away not giving up, another attack from Alvis sees Tommy pass the ball to an oncoming Adam who sidefoots the ball into the net 0-4. As usual Alvis decide when we get 4-0 up its time to give the opposition a goal, and like clockwork it happens 1-4. FINAL SCORE 1-4. Overall a good performance from the team, but a couple of players not playing to their usual standard, just doing enough. Special mention to JACK who had his best game this season in an Alvis shirt. MOM: ALEX, with a solid game at the back. 15/11/2009 Alvis V Coundon Court I was expecting a good evenly fought game, but yet again Alvis turned up asleep. For the first 10mins it seemed Coundon had 10 players on the pitch, passing at will and always finding a player in space. A couple of saves from Kieran, then a great shot from Coundon's No.14 from the left outside the area, smashed off Kieran's right hand post and this seemed to wake the Alvis boys up. We started to pressurise our opponents, not giving them space. We also started to tackle and move the ball about. The game was now quite even, then a ball played out to Jarrod, who takes it around a Coundon defender, chips the goalie for a goalward bound shot. About an inch off the line, Thomas K slides in and smashes it into the net (GOAL POACHER)1-0. HALF TIME 1-0 A quick team talk to gee the boys up seemed to work. A quick pass down the left, Jarrod takes the ball into the area and around 2 players and slips the ball into the back of the net (NO THOMAS ABOUT)2-0. Alvis were starting to believe in themselves again and a ball down the right sees a shot from Adam cross goal forcing the goalie into a full stretch save only for the ball to fall to the feet of the incoming Tommy 3-0. Coundon's heads now started to drop as a quick throw-in from George finds Tommy free, he turns into the area and puts the ball into the back of the net 4-0. Game over so I thought and so did the Alvis boys as we stopped playing, gifting Coundon 2 easy goals. FINAL SCORE 4-2 A gritty performance from the Alvis Team but not playing to their potential. Proving that if you give teams space they will pass with ease. Close them down and you'll force mistakes. The boys need to turn up and play from the first whistle to the last. The boys have got a lot more in their locker and we are just waiting for the day when they all show up, listen and do as there asked and DO IT ON THE PITCH! MOM: THOMAS K.
